How does a power inverter work?
A power inverter works by rapidly switching the connections between its input and output terminals. This is accomplished by means of an electronic switching device. This can be an IGBT or a tank circuit. A tank circuit is the most common system used to provide power switching at the exact frequency of the mains power source. A tank circuit works by having an inductor and capacitor connected in a series circuit. If the values of inductance and capacitance of the inductor and capacitor are carefully matched and configured, the circuit resonates with the current bouncing rapidly, changing direction at a certain frequency. By carefully selecting the values of inductance and capacitance, this resonant frequency can be changed to any desired frequency. This is usually matched to 50Hz or 60Hz, depending on the requirement. Once this circuit is set up, all that needs to be done is to connect the DC power source to the appropriate input terminals.
